Quick answer
Choose the Retro Starter Newborn Flats Bundle for a budget-friendly, minimalist start that adapts as your baby grows, or the Retro Super One Size Prefold Bundle for a bulk set that simplifies daily changes with ready-to-use absorbency.
Flats vs Prefolds: Key Differences
Flats are large, single-layer pieces of fabric that you fold into shape. They dry quickly and are easy to customize fit, but require folding at every change. Prefolds are pre-layered and stitched into a rectangular pad; they offer more absorbency right out of the wash but take longer to dry and are less adjustable for fit.
Bundle Value and Quantity
The Retro Starter Newborn Flats Bundle includes newborn-sized flats and is priced lower, making it an affordable entry point. The Retro Super One Size Prefold Bundle comes with a larger quantity of prefolds across multiple sizes (choose size 1, 2, 3, or 4), offering a bulk savings and a longer use window.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Folding effort: Flats require folding at every change; prefolds are ready to use with a simple pad fold or trifold.
- Drying time: Flats dry much faster than prefolds due to their single layer; prefolds can take longer in the dryer or on a line.
- Fit adjustability: Flats can be folded to fit a newborn or a growing baby; prefolds come in set sizes and offer less customization. If you want one set to last longer, flats offer more adjustability.
- Cost per diaper: The Retro Starter Newborn Flats Bundle has a lower total cost, but the Retro Super One Size Prefold Bundle provides more diapers and accessories per dollar spent. Calculate your long-term needs: flats are cheaper upfront, prefolds may offer better value per change over time.
